On October 3–4, 2018, the Russian Export Center (REC), jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, held an integrated business mission to the Kingdom of Morocco, during which export-oriented companies presented their projects to potential partners.
The business mission was held in conjunction with the 7th session of the Intergovernmental Joint Russian-Moroccan Commission for Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation. The Russian delegation was headed by Dmitry Patrushev, the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Russian part of the Commission. The agro-industrial complex and automobile manufacturing were selected as the priority areas for promotion at the event.
On October 3, 2018, the program of the business mission was opened by a plenary session “The Promising Areas of Commercial and Economic Cooperation of Russia and Morocco”. Later, participants of the business mission gathered at a specialized round table “Grain Cooperation: Opportunities for Implementing Joint Projects”. The program of the first day was completed with B2B meetings of Russian and Moroccan companies and a pitch session of the participants of the mission.
On October 4, 2018, a business breakfast “Russia-Morocco: The Focus on Strengthening of Commercial and Economic Relations in the Priority Areas” was organized on behalf of the Russian Export Center. The business breakfast was attended by Dmitry Patrushev, the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation; Aziz Akhannouch, the Minister of Agriculture and Sea Fishing of the Kingdom of Morocco; Abdelkader Lecheheb, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Morocco to the Russian Federation; Anastasiya Ivanova, Director for International Cooperation of the Russian Export Center; Khalid Benjelloun, Vice President of the General Confederation of Entrepreneurs of the Kingdom of Morocco; Aryom Tsinamdzgvrishvili, Trade Representative of the Russian Federation in the Kingdom of Morocco; Sergey Balan, President of the National Association of Exporters of Agricultural Products of the Russian Federation; Sergey Yushin, Head of the Executive Committee of the National Meat Association of the Russian Federation.
The business mission of Russian companies to the Kingdom of Morocco is undoubtedly a momentous and large-scale event in the development of our commercial and economic relations. The Kingdom of Morocco is one of the key strategic partners of the Russian Federation on the African continent. We intend to strengthen our relations and to create comfortable economic conditions for promotion of Russian products in the Moroccan market. It is important to emphasize that, during the business mission, more than 100 Russian and Moroccan companies from various economic sectors expressed their readiness to develop mutually beneficial cooperation
During the business meeting, the Minister of Agriculture and Sea Fishing of the Kingdom of Morocco Aziz Akhannouch reported abolition of the import duty on wheat, which previously had been equal to 135%. Besides, the Minister of Agriculture and Sea Fishing of the Kingdom of Morocco expressed his confidence that the contents and regularity of such business missions is the best evidence of the wish and aspiration of our countries to develop mutually beneficial economic and commercial relations.
Morocco is a window to a market with more than 1 billion consumers due to 57 free trade agreements concluded with other countries. Besides, Morocco holds an outstanding strategic geographical position. Morocco is a window to both Europe and Africa. For Russia, it may provide support for entering many markets of Africa
According to the participants of the meeting, during seven months of 2018, the total trade turnover between the two countries reached about 900 mln dollars (where export of products from Russia accounts for more than 550 mln dollars), which exceeds the indicator for the similar period of 2017 by more than 20%
Russia and Morocco are united by long-term partnership relations. For us, Morocco is one of the first Arabian partner countries. Russian export of agro-industrial products to Morocco is about 10% from the total export, and we are sure that this number may be increased
